Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Operations Team Lead and/or general supervision, the operator technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the company’s equipment within prescribed specifications which satisfies the customer requirements of quality, cost, and time, using the most economical means and complying with all legal requirements.
Job Duties

Comply with safety policies and practices and participate in the plant Safety Program, reporting any and all incidents that occur or could have occurred (near miss).

Maintain a safe and clean working environment for self, team members, and equipment through daily 5S, housekeeping activities and vehicle safety checks.

Adhere to quality standards and procedures supporting the positive release program and promoting quality within the operation.

Inspect manufactured product and follow quality protocol when defects are discovered. Adjust machines accordingly to minimize defects and record results by completing reports, summarizing re-works and wastes and inputting data into quality database.

Monitor, maintain and adjust machines during continuous production to prevent machine stoppages and minimize waste.

Use and read measuring and quality inspection devices as required.

Complete charting and document production activities as required to meet or exceed quality standards.

Work with team members to make recommendations for process improvements.

Support continuous improvement teams that will drive out waste and reduce operation costs.

Understand and ensure compliance of all policies and procedures such as the BRC Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principle, ISO14001 and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules while completing work tasks.

Participate in the development of SOP’s and work instructions as required.

Operate and/or work around highly automated systems including robotic equipment.

Understand and operate multiple production machines at a time to safely produce a sound quality product and ensure overall equipment effectiveness in accordance with established standards and guidelines.

Perform and accurately document daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks.

Assist in trial runs (SMA’s). Assist with machinery installs, overhauls and/or upgrades as needed.

Forklift operations as required.

Provide break relief as needed.

Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma or Equivalent
-
Mechanical aptitude
-
2+ years experience in high volume manufacturing preferred

Effective verbal and written communication skills
-
Possess excellent teamwork abilities, organizational skills, and problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Basic computer & math skills needed to be able to read and interpret drawings, review specifications, review work instructions and report line performance.

Detail oriented
-
Ability to work all shifts including 8 or 12-hour shifts, daylight, and off-shifts as well as weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Ability to adapt to changing initiatives.

Working knowledge of measuring devices.

There is no continual lifting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision as well as color recognition. Good hand/eye coordination is necessary.

Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Team members must wear hearing protection and all other assigned personal protective equipment. Temperature can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>95 degrees). The atmosphere contains fumes, dust, and odors.
Special Hazards:
Mechanical and electrical from machinery.
Exposure to pinch points, cuts, burns, metal dust and slivers.
Daily work near chemicals that are hazardous and explosive.
