Job Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for all areas of Plant Operations under the guidance of the Assistant Plant Manager.  These responsibilities include safe, cost efficient and timely production of required goods, coordination of materials and inventories, production scheduling, and process improvement and optimization to support the business plan and ensure compliance with all legal requirements.  The Production Manager is also responsible for employee technical skills and standard work development and will work with Management and Accounting to develop and insure adherence to operational budgets.   

 

Job Duties:

  • Establish, direct, and support a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring that all production employees have the information and tools to operate in a safe and effective manner. Always striving for an incident free workplace by leading safety efforts and full compliance to established government and company policies and regulations.
  • Effectively manage all aspects of manufacturing to realize performance in safety, quality, and productivity delivering high quality products and exceptional customer service efficiently.
  • Build and drive an organizational culture which aligns with company core vision and values while delivering Operational Excellence through the Trivium Production System (TPS) model.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and excellence using established guidelines and statistical tools by measuring and analyzing losses, implementing solutions and improvements, controlling the effectiveness of the solution, and adjusting when needed.
  • Responsible to ensure that equipment is properly maintained and coordinate with the Technical Managers to optimize maintenance programs.
  • Provide leadership, direction, performance management, and develop Operations Team Leads with emphasis on teamwork and problem-solving through regular assessments and timely communications on progress and areas of improvement
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities
  • Coordinate effective production and crewing schedules while optimizing productivity, quality, and inventory levels ensuring division of tasks, delegating, and monitoring of progress.
  • Support new product development and introduction.
  • Work closely with Operational / Quality management to ensure continuity of the production process. Oversee quality parameters with the use of statistics and address any nonconforming products/raw materials via root cause analysis.
  • Work with Human Resources to address and resolve any escalated personnel issues.
  • Effectively manage labor costs, including overtime management.
  • Review and approve or react to reports, requests, etc. that directly reflect the cost effectiveness and quality of the operation.
  • Define and enforce quantitative production indicators.
  • Produced periodic reports and analysis as needed and provide performance updates.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment and selection of the operations team. Internal and external communications, as needed, 24 hours a day to ensure proper operation of every aspect of the business.
  • Shall be competent and shall have appropriate education, training, skills, and experience. They shall be fully conversant in BRC Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principles, and BRC Food Safety Standards and Applications.
  • Ensure the environmental management system conforms to the requirements of ISO 14001 and reporting on the performance of the environmental management system to top management.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate / Technical Degree in related field with five years of management experience in high volume manufacturing, including employee screening, performance review, counseling, training, development; or significant experience in a related/similar field (prior can/end manufacturing experience preferred)
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work through complex problems in a high-volume manufacturing environment with tight tolerances.
  • Ability to effectively communicate up and down in the organization
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships with employees, peers, and leaders.
  • Systems and continuous improvement orientation
  • Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and regulations as well as ISO standards, HACCP, and/or GMP principles preferred
  • Working knowledge of statistics and Quality metrics.
  • Computer experience (Windows, MS Office products, Visio, SAP, and other)
  • Strong analytical communication skills
  • Understanding of relevant environmental regulations

 

Work Environment:

In this role, working in an office environment located on the production floor is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud outside of the office area. Employees must wear hearing protection and all other assigned Personal Protective Equipment.  Temperature can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>90 degrees).  The atmosphere contains fumes, dust and odors. This position will use a computer, cellphone and other office equipment to perform the job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 20 pounds.
