General Function:   

Under the direction of the Quality Manager and Quality Lead; this position will function as a Quality Inspector (QI) and Process Auditor.    The QI’s communication & documentation of detailed information along with the sharing of best practices among all Crews & Team Leaders is an essential component of this position.

 

While maintaining the QI role, they will be responsible for maintaining Trivium Core Values and Operational Excellence. They are accountable for the department quality requirements, Trivium Inspection and Test Methods (ITM’s) and standards.  The QI will be instrumental in communicating, problem solving, analyzing, and reacting to quality problems as they arise. 

 

The primary role of the QI will be to become an expert in the quality requirements of each production line as well as the quality system. The QI must become fully proficient in understanding the quality standards, policies, APC systems, quality specifications, and ITM’s. The QT is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all quality checks and tests for the department as well as the proper reaction to the test results including effectively communicating with the team members, team leader, or manager as applicable. This position monitors and maintains all department equipment in a manner that provides for safe and quality operations.

 

The QI will work closely with the plant management staff, their crew team members, as well as working independently when required. The QI will be a resource for trials, process improvement, and product improvement activities.

 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Maintain safe working environment for team members and equipment.
  • Perform quality checks and inspections per standard work.
  • Achieve and sustain competency on all gauges and quality checks.
  • Perform visual inspections of work in process and finished product at each manufacturing process and/or production equipment.
  • Review inspection results using control charts and other SPC tools.
  • React to the quality check results according to company guidelines.
  • Ensure all quality checks are completed and documented correctly as per requirements.
  • Sample, re-inspect, and rework off-quality product as necessary.
  • Prepare, store, and replenish quality test ends for cameras and testers.
  • Perform test studies and special measurements as required.
  • Attain and sustain good working knowledge of SPC, control charts, ITM’s, quality policies, and plant instructions that pertain to quality.
  • Ensure all HFI on their shift is properly documented and located and provide assistance and guidance to Team Leaders or Supervisors with HFI.
  • Ensure all housekeeping tasks are completed daily, weekly, and as required.
  • Follow 5S standards for the quality lab, enclosure, and any other plant area as applicable.
  • Assist zone mechanics and Team Leaders when the line is down as directed.
  • Provide quality guidance and assistance to Team Leaders and Supervisors on off shifts and weekends.
  • Perform duties and tasks as directed by the Quality Manager, Quality Lead, and/or Quality Technician.
  • Identify and replenish supplies of test solutions, cross section materials, and other quality consumables.
  • Follow directions of Team Leader and Supervisor on the shift with respect to emergency situations and other critical operational issues.
  • Complete basic level certification in zones 1, 2, and 3 within one year.

Education and or Experience:

  • Associate degree or equivalent certification in quality, maintenance OR 1 year quality and/or maintenance experience in high volume processes or other sophisticated equipment is desired.
  • Proven experience in effectively communicating and training people as well as promoting teamwork.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within the can & end making industry.
  • Basic to intermediate skills with proficiency in Excel, Word
  • Have acceptable attendance record.
  • Must have prior rotation experience in quality.
  • Must be fully qualified in one other production zone.
  • Must demonstrate acceptable attention to detail with respect to documentation

            and job completion.       

  • Must demonstrate good self-direction with minimal supervision.
  • Must have demonstrated good training and instructional skills.

 

Site Specific Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to work all rotating or permanent shifts, including day and night 8 and/or 12 hour shifts, weekends and holidays.

Work Environment: 

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud outside of the office/lab area.  Employees must wear hearing protection and all other assigned Personal Protective Equipment.  Temperature can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>90 degrees).  The atmosphere contains fumes, dust and odors.
