Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Operations Team Leader and/or general supervision, is responsible for safety, quality, and production by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. This position is considered a “subject matter expert” and will support the team through process improvement, coaching, mentoring, and training. This position involves being able to troubleshoot, repair and maintain a variety of mechanical production and facilities equipment ensuring maximum capacity and efficiency of plant operations and compliance with all safety requirements.
Job Duties:
- Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Locate, analyze, and repair sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Understand and operate production machines to safely produce a sound quality product and ensure overall equipment effectiveness in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
- Inspect manufactured product for faultiness and follow quality protocol when flaws are discovered. Inspecting output samples using industry-appropriate methods, such as comparing to standards, measuring dimensions, and examining functionality. Recording results by completing reports, summarizing re-works and wastes and inputting data into quality database.
- Make all necessary adjustments/repairs to equipment to maintain all safety, quality, and productivity goals.
- Coach, mentor, and train other team members towards problem resolution.
- Oversee all critical points of the process to ensure quality standards are met.
- Provide accurate reporting of safety, production, efficiency, quality, and potential problem areas to operate in an efficient and productive manner.
- Assist in trial runs, defective product isolating/sorting and machine breakdowns.
- Perform various jobs of responsibility on a rotational basis.
- Assist with new equipment installation and/or overhauls.
- May be required to work on plant projects.
- Be available for callouts in cases of emergencies and breakdowns.
- Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Work with others to make recommendations for process improvements.
- Forklift operations as required.
- Operate production lines and relieve personnel for breaks as required.
- Shall understand the BRC Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principle and BRC Food Safety Standard.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Associate degree in an industrial mechanic concentration or equivalent technical certification preferred
- Strong Mechanical aptitude (written skills test & hands-on test required)
- Sound understanding of handling and using tools and measuring devices (aptitude test required)
- Experience in high volume manufacturing preferred
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lead a team, coach, train, mentor, and facilitate job tasks
- Ability to solve complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Intermediate mall skills with the ability to divide in all units of measurement, compute rate, ratio, and percent (aptitude test required)
- Must have the ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events
- Demonstrated ability to motivate people and maintain a safe, cohesive work environment
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to work all shifts including 8- or 12-hour shifts, daylight, and off-shifts as well as weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
Starting Pay Range:
- $30.55 - $31.43 per hour

Work Environment:
This position works in a manufacturing environment and around machinery that produces noise.
The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Employees must wear hearing protection and all other assigned personal protective equipment. Temperature can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>95 degrees). The atmosphere contains fumes, dust, and odors.
